Explain the importance of Free Labor and how this set the North and South at odds?

Free labour helped build America, even though it was very wrong. It helped by providing labour free of charge for Plantation owners, they became richer and richer. Now the North didn't like this because they knew that slavery was wrong, and instead decided to force the south to stop forcing people to work for free. The south saw this as a threat to their profits and were upset.
